Ian Rawling

Born in 1966 in Norfolk, Ian Rawling graduated with a degree in design from Sheffield Art College. Ian Rawling started out working as an illustrator and designer and was very sucessful although he decided that he wanted more out of his artwork than simply to make a living. He went on to work full time for himself and made an immediate impact ont he artworld by producing some very stylised and bold imagery. Ian Rawling finds his inspiration through people watching and the situations we all regularly encounter. He uses techniques such as exaggeration and repetition, working mainly in pastels to bring his characters to life. The Monty Python humour, the cartoon genius Gary Larson and Norman Rockwell the 1950's artist have been immensely influential in Ian Rawlings' work.
